DRILL SERGEANT CREED

I AM A DRILL SERGEANT

I WILL ASSIST EACH INDIVIDUAL IN THEIR EFFORTS TO BECOME A HIGHLY MOTIVATED, WELL DISCIPLINED, PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY FIT SOLDIER, CAPABLE OF DEFEATING ANY ENEMY ON TODAY'S MODERN BATTLEFIELD.

I WILL INSTILL PRIDE IN ALL I TRAIN. PRIDE IN SELF, IN THE ARMY, AND IN COUNTRY.

I WILL INSIST THAT EACH SOLDIER MEETS AND MAINTAINS THE ARMY STANDARDS OF MILITARY BEARING AND COURTESY, CONSISTENT WITH THE HIGHEST TRADITIONS OF THE U.S. ARMY.

I WILL LEAD BY EXAMPLE, NEVER REQUIRING A SOLDIER TO ATTEMPT ANY TASK I WOULD NOT DO MYSELF.

BUT FIRST, LAST, AND ALWAYS, I AM AN AMERICAN SOLDIER. SWORN TO DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.

I AM A DRILL SERGEANT

Sharp commands echo across the drill field and marching feet beat a tattoo across the ground. As anotherPointing the way order sounds, dozens of rifles snap in unison. These are the sounds of an institution as old as organized armies; dismounted drill. The foundation of this institution is the Drill Sergeant.

The hours the Drill Sergeant spends on the drill field have one goal; to develop in the soldier an instinct for precision, an ingrained habit of obedience to command, and a sense of teamwork.

The Drill Sergeant instructs the soldiers in squad, platoon, and company drill; the manual of arms, and the school of a soldier without arms. Because of the hard work and dedication of the Drill sergeant, the soldier acquires habits which are the basis of all else they will learn in the Army: discipline, alertness, and a trigger-quick response.
