For any type of organized competition to be successful, there must be a standardized operating procedure. Drill competition is no exception. Yet, that is not so. Drill competitions around the country suffer from a lack of standardization. If the rules change with each meet, this prevents a team from reaching a level of proficiency needed to stay competitive. It also limits a team to the number of meets they may want to enter. They are slowed down every time they have to memorize a new sequence or change their exhibition routine in order to meet the new time requirements. There isn't even a standardized number of people on each team. That creates a major setback for the exhibition teams. Most of the time, the SOP isn't even mailed to a team until after the entry fee is paid. Think of the chaos this would generate in other sports such as football or track and field.
This section of The Drill Pad is provided to help standardize drill meets. It is based on the SOP of the National Drill Championship. If we all work on standardizing the meets, it will help elevate drill competition to the same level as other organized competitions. This is well overdue.
